By public transit


Chatham Area Transit (CAT)

River Street Streetcar - A one mile long streetcar line in the Downtown Historic District.

The streetcar operates Thursday thru Sunday from noon to 9:00 pm

From west to east the station stops along the line are:
  • Montgomery Street
  • Barnard Street
  • City Hall Transit Terminal connection to city buses and the Savannah Belles ferry
  • Abercorn Street
  • Habersham Street
  • Houston Street
  • Waving Girl Landing connection to the Savannah Belles ferry to Hutchinson Island

By car

Bay Street is the major east-west street cutting through the Historic District.

Abercorn is the north-south street in the city, beginning at Bay Street & stretching south through the city.



On foot

Walking is the preferred method of seeing the Historic District which is one square mile, with the Savannah River as the northern boundary, Forsyth Park as the southern boundary, East Broad St. as the eastern boundary, & the Visitor Center & MLK Jr. Blvd. as the western boundary.
